Product Labs🔬: Decoding Numerous AI
“Excel formulas and shortcuts”
“How to do a lookup in Excel”
“Formula for merging columns”
These are a few examples of searches done by anyone who has ever worked with Excel. Spark as a PM struggles with this regularly.
After quite a bit of digging around to solve this problem, we bring to you - Numerous.ai
Smartly termed as “ChatGPT for Sheets”, Numerous AI is a powerful AI-driven tool designed to streamline various data tasks that can significantly enhance your productivity and efficiency.

What’s in it for you?
Numerous.ai is an efficient and cost-effective solution for using ChatGPT inside Google Sheets and MS Excel. It helps you breeze through long mundane data analysis tasks by automating repetitive tasks, it helps reduce errors and improve overall efficiency.
Through clever branding as “ChatGPT for Sheets”, Numerous AI leverages Familiarity Bias, by associating itself with the most popularly used GenAI tool.
Familiarity bias is a cognitive bias, where people tend to prefer options that are familiar to them.
In product design, this means users are more likely to choose products or features that resemble what they've used before.
You can use Numerous AI on Google Sheets by enabling it as an “Add On”. It is very nifty that it is an easy-to-enable add-on, rather than getting into the complexities of having it as an API and the whole rut of API key. This reduces the effort on the user and makes Numerous very easy to use.
Spark Effect, states that users are most likely to take action when the effort is small.
Here we already enabled Numerous, the side pane opens up and shows the complete list of functions
There is a long list of functions, provided by Numerous AI, do check it out for yourself, but we will give you a quick overview.
There are 3 General Functions:
AI: This function lets you integrate ChatGPT into your sheets, with a simple prompt. Another example, of a clever name play by Numerous AI, “AI” is the most prominent and easy-to-recollect name and directly emphasizes the use of AI. This is an example of Semantic Naming, though it is a software development concept it can be applied here as well.
Semantic naming is the practice of giving names to elements that clearly convey their meaning or purpose.

INFER: You can give examples of inputs & outputs, and INFER can apply the same pattern to more inputs. Use it in the first cell, and you can easily drag it to the entire column.
WRITE: You can use WRITE to generate text, based on your descriptions via a simple prompt, like customized emails or marketing messages.
The difference between WRITE & AI is simple - Use WRITE for longer creative text and for quick short responses use AI.
Now the saviour for the most tedious tasks - FORMULA!
Generate Formula: Just as the name suggests, describe the task and you can generate the formula.
Explain Formula: More often than not, you are handed an Excel with multiple columns interlinked and you cannot decipher the formulae used. Explain Formula is your simple solution to this.
To help you out with Data Analysis, there are a few tools here
Extract: This is really cool feature, where you can “extract” specific elements from text descriptions in a cell.
No need to spend time going over each customer review, just use Extract. Also, yes this is from Numerous YouTube channel
Classify: Instead of manually going over each row, you can use Classify each cell into one of the predefined categories.
Reformat: How many times do you have to change the format of text in a column, but there is no ready-to-go Excel Formula? That’s where you use Reformat to change the text format.
Sentiment Analysis: Not going into details here, how easy is it to just use “Sentiment analysis”, to categorize customer reviews or product feedback very easily without reading each manually.

Some help to get your inner Shakespeare running
Rewrite Text: Select the text in any cell and change it as you like, make it formal, short or anything at all.
Translate: Now, really lazy not explaining what this function does, it’s self-explanatory.
Lastly, here are some functions to help with general insight-gathering
Make Educated Guess: If you need help, trying to guess names from an email ID or the gender of the writer from a passage, make an educated guess.
Get Basic Information: This can be used to extract information from a block of text in any cell
Extract simple information like the cuisine here, with Get Basic Information
We think it’s a pretty long exhaustive list and a solution to many of the spreadsheet woes. By offering an extensive array of functions – from AI-powered formula generation to sentiment analysis and creative writing assistance – it addresses a wide spectrum of user needs. This tool not only streamlines data analysis and automates repetitive tasks but also opens up new possibilities for creativity and insight generation within spreadsheets.
If you want some cool examples and tutorials on how to use Numerous AI, check out their YouTube channel.
What’s the intrigue?
Despite its impressive capabilities, Numerous AI seems to be a relatively under-the-radar product. It hasn't garnered significant attention on popular platforms like Product Hunt or There's An AI for That, and its YouTube channel is still growing. This lack of widespread awareness is somewhat surprising given the tool's potential to revolutionize spreadsheet workflows.
While Numerous AI currently excels in data manipulation and analysis, there's room for expansion into other areas. It would be fascinating to see the tool evolve to include data visualization features like charts and graphs. Additionally, integrating advanced Excel functionalities such as writing macros or using pivot tables could further enhance its versatility and appeal to a wider audience.
You Asked 🙋♀️, We Answered ✔️
Question: Your last edition about GameNGen was quite fascinating. How do you foresee addressing the challenge of AI-driven game engines scaling up to more complex, modern games with larger state spaces, longer-term dependencies, and higher graphical fidelity? Additionally, how might this impact the role of human game developers and designers in the future of game creation?
Answer: The challenges of handling larger state spaces, longer-term dependencies, and higher graphical fidelity in modern AAA titles are significant. We're actively exploring several approaches to address these issues:
Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning: By breaking down complex tasks into smaller, more manageable subtasks, AI agents can learn more efficiently and effectively.
Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs): GANs can generate highly realistic and diverse game content, reducing the need for extensive hand-crafted assets. This can streamline game development and make it easier to scale up to more complex games.
Hybrid Approaches: Combining AI-driven techniques with traditional game development methods can provide the best of both worlds. For example, AI could be used to generate procedural content, while human designers can fine-tune the results to ensure a high level of quality and consistency.
Specialized Hardware: As AI-driven game engines become more demanding, specialized hardware like GPUs and TPUs will need to continue to evolve to provide the necessary computational power.
Regarding the impact on human game developers, we believe that AI will not replace human creativity but rather augment it. By automating many time-consuming tasks, AI can free up developers to focus on more creative aspects of game design. Additionally, AI can generate novel and unexpected game content, inspiring developers to explore new gameplay mechanics and narrative structures.
Well, that’s a wrap! Until then, |
